The National Film Preservation Board\u00a0<span class=\"s1\">adds up to 25\u00a0&#8220;culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant films&#8221; to the NRF each year. This year a number of adaptations landed on the registry including one of our favorite adaptations of all time, <em>The Shawshank Redemption<\/em> (based on a Stephen King short story) as well as one of the oldest adaptations I&#8217;m aware of, <em>Dream of Rarebit Fiend<\/em>, which is a 7-minute silent film from 1906 based on a comicstrip.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Other adaptations on the list include <em>Being There<\/em>\u00a0from 1979 based on a book by the same name published in 1970, A Spanish language Dracula from 1931, and <em>Imitation of Life<\/em> produced in 1959 from the 1933 novel.<\/p>\n<p>To see the full list of films in the National Registry of Film, go <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loc.gov\/programs\/national-film-preservation-board\/film-registry\/complete-national-film-registry-listing\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>(via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thewrap.com\/ghostbusters-shawshank-redemption-added-to-national-registry-of-film\/\" target=\"_blank\">thewrap<\/a>)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Registry of Film is a fairly small collection of films preserved in the Library of Congress.
