Deadspin is reporting that the director for WWZ2, Juan Antonio Bayona, is no longer on the project. The reason seems to be a scheduling conflict since Bayona wants to finish working A Monster Calls, a film based a book by the same name. The book was released in 2011 and is an illustrated fantasy novel for children.
I couldn’t care less about WWZ2. I hated the first movie even though I may have to concede that it’s a very hard book to adapt. I’m not sure people would have gone to see a feature film that looked like a Ken Burns documentary about zombies. I’m sure the sequel will have even less to do with the book so I’ll probably pass on that. But I am really excited about A Monster Calls, which I wasn’t even aware of before now. It’s slated for release on Oct. 14 2016 so look forward to this being our Halloween episode.
