Former Child Actor to work with Child Actors

As you may or may not know, Lemony Snicket’s ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ is making its way to Netflix. The series of children’s books are written by “Lemony Snicket,” the pen name of the actual author, Daniel Handler. A movie by the same name was released in 2004 and Starred Jim Carrey as Count Olaf, the primary antagonist of the film.

The film seemed to do pretty well. It’s currently at 72% on RottenTomatoes although the audience score is a bit lower. It’s been a while since I’ve seen it but I remember it being very visually stylized and overall an enjoyable movie, even if you hadn’t read the books. It grossed $118M at the box office but I guess that wasn’t enough to earn it a sequel even though there was plenty more source material to pull from.

But now Netflix is bringing it back in the form of a TV show and Neil Patrick Harris will be taking over the Count Olaf role. Harris made the announcement in a tweet where he jokes about child actors, both making fun of his youthful career and already getting into character as the Count. I’m a big NPH fan and I think he does a good job of getting lost in his roles, unlike Carrey who you never forget is Carrey even at his best.
